Weeding After a Soaking Rain

There are few gardening tasks I genuinely look forward to, but weeding after a soaking rain is one of them.
On a hot, dry day, weeding can feel like a never-ending chore. The weeds seem determined to stay put, and more often than not, they break off before you can pull out the roots. After a good overnight rain, though, it's a completely different experience.
The soil is soft and forgiving, and weeds come out with surprisingly little effort. There's something deeply satisfying about grabbing a dandelion at the base and feeling the entire root slide free from the earth. Instead of fighting the garden, it feels like you're working with it. Every weed you pull is a small victory, and before long, the garden starts looking a little tidier and a lot happier.
The whole garden seems happier after a good rain. Leaves look fresh and clean, flowers stand a little taller, and the rich scent of damp earth drifts through the air. Birds hop around searching for worms while Archie, my pup, dozes nearby, keeping one eye open as he waits for the mailman to arrive.
Weeding becomes less of a chore and more of a quiet moment to slow down. There's no rush. Just the rhythm of pulling weeds, listening to the sounds of the garden, and appreciating the progress one handful at a time.
By the time I'm finished, the beds look tidier, the plants have more room to grow, and I leave with a sense of accomplishment that's hard to explain to anyone who doesn't garden.
Sometimes the best garden therapy isn't planting something new—it's simply stepping outside after a soaking rain and pulling a few weeds.
